Could anyone give me an idea how much it should cost to remove head and get it skimmed & pressure tested? The engine is Nissan 2.0 petrol SLX 1998

were i live your looking at anything between 40-£70,depends if you take it to a main agent, then you would get stung.

that would be just for a skim, allow at least another 50 quid to take it off, another 50 - 100 in gaskets, another 100 in labour to rebuild, so a likely total of about 350quid for the whole job
