rearview mirror glue for Ford

Apr 06, 2005 12 Replies

Hi,

Found loads of messages about recommended glue (Loctite seems to be the favourite), but I could not find an explanation to the fact that their website says "Not suitable for Ford and Seat cars."? Anyone knows what is the problem with Ford cars (I have a Fiesta)? What is the alternative?

Thanks

Philippe

Vauxhall dealers sell a peel off double sided pad works very well Derek

The number oif times I have seen this asked .Double sided pads are imho...KRAP. lol... Go to Halfords and look for a small kit .a tube of adhesive and a small piece of mesh and use that, following the instructions, making sure the glass is scrupulously clean .Thats what I used for both my Carlton and my present Mondeo.

I think the prob is with the heated front screen. If used, the glue doesn't allow the area to contract/expand with temp fluctuations and may eventually crack. ?

OK, thanks. It's just that as far as I can see, the Halfords one is the same sort of system as the Loctite one (glue + mesh) , ans I was worried about this Ford restriction. but if you say it's working, I'll go for it..

I used the sticky pads, £1.99 from halfords for 2. Stuck it on and its better than the old one, as the mirroe doesnt shake when going over bumps. I got a Mondeo with heated front screen and that hasnt affected it yet.

Muggy

well If it does crack.........It'll become an insurance job ....lol Stuart

Never bothered me.

I got one of the kits from Halfords to stick my mirror back on. Worked a treat. Never came off, never cracked.

Don't even bother with the sticky pads - they're absolute junk (IME).

Hello again,

For those who may come accross the same problem: I bought the Loctite kit this w-e and now, Ford is not anymore in the list of unsuitable cars... Only Mazda 121.

The message from snipped-for-privacy@hgu.mrc.ac.uk (Philippe Gautier) contains these words:

Which is a Fiesta by any other name anyway!

apart from the early ones that were copied by the kia pride
