Removing a fuse

Hi,

I want to remove fuse 29 (alarm and central locking) on a L Reg Ford Escort. The Ford manual says it's on the rear side of the fuse box but I can't find it.

Any ideas how to access it? My Haynes manual has no reference to this fuse's whereabouts.

Are you sure the fuse exists and that you're looking at the correct fuse box/wiring diagram for the year/model car?

Yes, Checked my ford manual and the Haynes manual and both say fuse 29. I think I found it actually. Had a mate take off the plastic under the steering wheel and dropped down the fuse box. We found a number 20 amp Fuse on top of the box but nothing to indicate it was number 29. Rather than risk anything I decided that the best way to disable the alarm was to disconnect the plugs at the horn. The horn still works but the alarm is now off. I've got a wiring problem somewhere and until I find a reputable, decent and reasonably priced auto electrician - I'm not going to get it fixed. The car is worth bugger all so I've just temporarily got the alarm off.

Thanks for your reply tho!!

yes the c/l fuse (20 amp) is located above the fuse box next to all the relays - dont ask why its there..... youve got to lower the fuse box complely to see it.

Many Thanks! I found it. Had to take panel off under steering wheel and drop fuse box down but yes - it's there. Odd place!

At a few mA drain I wouldn't worry. Even if the LED took as much as 20mA (typical max forward current) it would take 83 days to flatten a 40Ah battery.

Cheers
