Renault Clio brake disc screws

Hi guys, is it possible to re-tap and replace screws that hold the brake disc on to wheel hub? My wife's car has started to shudder when braking and I took the front wheels off to look. Both discs seem OK (I haven't checked with a dial gauge....don't have one, but they look OK) but the nearside disc screws were not flush and one of them is not even tightened as the thread is chewed.

I assume that the screw whole can be re-tapped but does anyone know if I should be able to get slightly larger screws to then fit?

you need to restore the correct size or you would have to get involved with modifying the disk recess.. a helicoil insert is the way to go

You can, but it won't make any difference to the shuddering, it's the wheel nuts that hold the discs onto the hub. If it's juddering it's far more likelt to be the suspension bushes.

My last car didn't have operational disc screws. Being as it's the wheel nuts that actually hold it on, the little screws are relatively unimportant. They just stop the disc coming off if you remove the wheel. And since they are generally rusted in place, that's not usually an issue.

I will just reiterate what others have already said. It is the wheel bolts that hold the disks on.

My car hasn't had those screws for 9 years now and it has never juddered when braking.

Have you checked the the rear face of the disk is mated correctly and that there is not any gunk/rust or bits? If the disk is not completely flush it can cause shudder as the disk won't be true.
