That is interesting because in my area they have been taking the untaxed vehicles with a grab loader, they are wrecked by the time thay are loaded, I wonder what happens to your car when the tax disc just gets stolen, hopefully only the vehicles which do not check out with DVLA are being collected. I can see a big increase in tax disc theft coming up. With the improvement in digital imaging I wouldn't be surprised to see a big increase in forged tax discs too.

Hooray keep right on clamping them. Heard on LBC today DVLA had clamped a Roller for no tax,apparently one of those with no registered keeper, apparently they are going to crush it. Really begs the question why not sell it at auction??

Absolutely brilliant, here in Merseyside they turn a blind eye. Or at least they did when it was a private hire taxi that was constantly being reported ! usual response from police - couldn't be bothered, traffic wardens were not allowed to cover that part of the road and the DVLA couldn't care less. The taxi licensing office in Wallasey were not too bothered either.

So I am glad to see people being clamped when the rest of us have to pay.

You get knobbled for the cost of the clamp and a whole load of other charges. I've a feeling that it's a criminal offence to interfere with clamps placed by certain authorities.

This happened to me about 3 years ago in Bradford. I had an Escort that the Tax had ran out on and I'd just bought myself another car so the escort was just sat there. One day when I got up there was a big yellow clamp on the escort and a note in the window. The next day I got home from work to find the car had been taken to Barnsley and I would have to pay (I think it was £70) to get it back. I did only because I had already sold the car for £100. Lost out on that deal :(

That's the only time I've seen that happen :(

Also the police do the roadside camera check and chase after you on bikes if you have no tax and fail to stop. I nearly got caught out with this one about a year ago, I had no tax (payday at the wrong time, but still no excuse). As I approached the trap and then realised what it was, I saw the bikes chasing after someone else so I did a quick U-turn while they were busy and scooted off.

Depends who it is that clamps you I suppose.

An independent clamper firm would probably not be assed with taking you to court over a few quid

Also, some concils have a sneaky trick of clamping your own car in your drive if you ain't paid your council tax. Happened to my childminder in Hounslow. Council pointed out that since it was their house and their drive it was up to them if they clamped you in it.

I've always thought that crushing the car should be the penalty for the majority of crimes. It seems to be the only thing most people care about !

Way ahead of their kids often, given how often you see kids unrestrained in cars. Perhaps that's the answer to kids wearing seatbelts...crush the car. Second offence leave the kids in it.
