Rover 220

Hi. My son has just 'phoned me saying he is having trouble with his Rover

220 coupe 2ltr. Its misfiring. It is absolutely pizzin down and it will be dark by the time I get there. Anyone know of a regular fault with this car or am I going to get soaked and skinned?

Rotor arm. Friend of mine has just been through hell & high-water to get a mis-fire fixed on his 220 Turbo. Even though he'd replaced it once (and a bucket of other things) he finally found out that the replacement was faulty too. There's some sort of design defect with them that Rover won't acknowledge. Apparently the conversation with the parts dept went:

"Is there a common fault with rotor arms on the 220?" "Oh, no sir, very reliable. They never fail." "Do you sell many?" "Oh, yes, lots."

Has he driven through any deep puddles? Maybe worth taking some WD 40 with you.

Thanks for the replies, bit due to my computer like analytical examination I had little trouble finding the fault.

By the time I got there it would not start at all, so I went through my check list and found it was item A:3

A :1 is it the right car. ( not as funny as it sounds. it has been known).

:2 are there any bits hanging off or on the floor.

:3 switch on ignition and check the warning lights and dash.

By skilful use of 'the force' I deduced it was fuel problems. Well actually, I noticed the gauge showed empty.

Thanks for the replies, sorry to waste your time. Did not get too wet either.
