scenic 1.9 dti cambelt change timing mark problems

hello all can someone with renault knolledge help please

v reg renault scenic had a cambelt snap fixed it by changing the head

and fitting new cambelt and kit

first thing to note i could not get the belt to line up with the marks

  1. locked the crank with correct pin and checked that the sprocket was showing the dot at 7oclock (little bit past 6 oclock)

that was the easy bit

  1. fitted the belt with the inner line on the dot on crank
  2. found cam mark and pump mark lined them up with belt lines made sure belt was correct rotation direction
  3. tightend belt but engine would not turn over as the inlet valve on 1. cylinder was hitting

after a few arguments i decided to retard the cam sprocket one tooth

engine started first try and runs smooth almost there i thought finished putting back together but it goes into limp mode as soon as its under load

as ive had problems with the marks do you think the pump is advanced by one tooth is there any way to check

sorry for such a long post just thought you may need all the facts

CAN YOU PLEASE CONFIRM THE AUTO DATA DETAILS as i have used my autodata book and it only shows crank locking pin and the cam has a mark on the cover you have to remove (easily transferd by pen to the backplate) but the pump just has a dot and knowhere to fit a pin nor a casing mark

its all by the by now as ive got it right just interested to see if the books realy do differ

I used the cd version of autodata (2003) It shows a sort of semi circular thing (tool no. Mot.1200-01) that bolts on to the left of the pump locking it in position. The back plate may or may not have marks.
