seat belt thingies/wotsits

Any idea peeps what those plastic button thingies on a seat belt are called - they stop the buckle bit from sliding all the way to the bottom. Mine has been trapped in car door and fragmented. Can't get one off the back seatbelt to use without it going crack-buggerit. Need to order one from dealer if local motorfactors doesn't do them.

Although they aren't safety related (unless you bodge the hole a lot bigger or something equally daft) so you could use anything else that goes through the hole, makes a bulge and stays put... got any epoxy putty?

When I worked at Autoliv, they were called 'Buttons' and were applied using the machinery that wound the webbing onto the retractor. (reel)

If you are anywhere near a UK car plant give them a call and ask for the guy from the supplier who supplies the seatbelts for the production line - probably from Autoliv, Allied Signal or TRW.

He will have a scissor-like tool that will apply another button in about 2 seconds.....

You'll have to ask him nicely, though.....

The message from "PC Paul" contains these words:

Or just sew a button on! Front-side in, for preferrence, and take care as you sew so you push between the threads to reduce the chance of weakening the webbing.

And to make a really neat job, put a button on both sides (the original was like that after all) - does double the price of the repair, but as the parts are comming from granny's button tin, shouldn't be ruinous!
