Sierra Sapphire intermittent cutting out

Try changing the flywheel sensor. Mine got oily after an oil filter change :-( and it cost me a small fortune for a ' specialist ' garage to eventually find !

If it has it will probably be the 'iscv'idle speed control valve,it will idle irratically then die,then run fine and all of a sudden do it again, It's bolted on the side of the 'efi'chamber with 2x10mmbolts and a mulitiplug has to come off,clean with carb cleaner and also clean inside the housing where it's fits,be carefull with the gasket when removing.

it might be the seal behind the dizzy known to leak oil, if it gets into the back it could cause the problems you describe

if it is doing it on idle only, and is otherwise sound, then you will have to clean or replace the idle speed control valve (front of the engine behind the slam panel) and clean the throttle housing out properly (which often means removing it totally and giving it a soak in petrol for a few days)

the other option to think about is the breather pipe that runs round the back of the block sometimes gets a pin hole of rust and this causes very similar problems as well, but only when you are driving because the pipe expands ever so slightly because of it's proximity to the exhaust if this is the case it's best to get a new breather filter for it as well

I've cleaned the Crankshaft speed/position sensor (it was coated!) and I've cleaned the Idle speed control valve (slightly carboned up) and it seemed to do the trick.... until tonight (22/1). Luckily, I was just parking up a home when it started spluttering, more like a misfire this time. I think the ISCV may be faulty so trying to source one at reasonable price.

I don't think it will fit of a renault,regarding e-bay i'll have a look later but if you have the '2ltr dohc' engine with 'efi' fitted i have one. Simon.

These items seem to be expensive, so its obviously an essential component and one thats prone to faulter.
