P reg 2.1 turbodiesel estate, manual trans. Speedo has stopped working. Recently worked only intermittently but has now ceased completely. I've cleaned and checked the connector on the speed transducer located near the output driveshaft but still no joy. Is there another connector between this one and the speedo on this model? I really hope I don't have to rip the dash out! All the other instruments are fine except the mileometer of course. This still displays a mileage but it doesn't change. I'm hoping it's a wiring fault or failed transducer but we'll see......You need to be a gynaecologist to work on this bastard, I swear! Any help appreciated. cheers, JB

You may know from previous posts that my speedo/mileometer on my 406 doesnt work either. It's even got Peugeot stumped. Cost £600 so far and still doesnt work. Bloody thing..... Ive got used to driving without the speedo as my Snooper tells me my speed and i use the Rev counter.
My question is now, at next years MOT, will it fail for non-working speedo? And, if I got caught without it what would happen? For hell's sake, if Peugeot can't fix it, who can?!

Speedo is not a MOT testable item.
Just had the sensor changed at a local garage which fixed an identical problem in my Xantia. One bloke said I needed a new speedo which would have been a couple of hundred so I ignored the problem for a while than went elsewhere. This other garage diagnosed it in half an hour.

Yes, but the mileage will raise eyebrows when it reads exactly the same as the year before! If not a testable item.... surely one to raise eyebrows?!

Don't you just love sweeping generalisations. I've had 5 French cars, 4 British, 1 Daewoo(where ever those come from) and one Russian. I haven't found any to be significantly better or worse than the rest, apart from the Allegro of course. But I do look after them reasonably well.
