Spark plug question.

Does anyone have a spark plug book available? I need to know the equivalent of an NGK BPR6ES, but 10mm instead of 14mm. One of those letters must be the code for the size, no?

TIA

I *think* it might be BCPR6ES. However, if you go to

you can try their part finder page.

Ta for that. Just been there, and it only allows me to specify what car they're for, and the plug I've got, the BPR6ES are right, but there's something unusual going on. The car has 10mm plugs, which I've not seen on an Astra before. Each plug is in a steel tube going down into the head, and I'm wondering if this has been sleeved down for some reason.

I wish now I'd taken a pic of the tubes before letting the geezer take the car away, but it was pissing down by that time and I was in a foul temper.

Any ideas?

Cheers, Steve

If you mean the thread size:

14mm thread (standard car type) is the B part 10mm thread (usually motorcycles) is always D 18mm (pinto engines) is A 12mm (not common at all) is C (lawn mowers usually)

P is extended nose R is resistor

6 is the heat range E means it uses a gasket IIRCand S are descriptors for the side electrode and material iirc F near the end is taper seat

There is also the complication of HEX size which is usually related to the thread size but sometimes appears as an extra C after the first letter such as BCP6ES which has a little hex but a normal thread such as on CVH engines

So, if you mean a 10mm equivalent of BPR6ES then it would be something like DPR6ES. If you mean a little hex version then it would be BCPR6ES

HTH If needed I can dig out an NGK book

'ngk%20plug%20codes' Would seem to be CPR6ES but I don't think such a plug exists

You didn't check the NGK web site that well then, they list BPR6E up to

1995, and BKR6EK from 1995. The latter would fit in with what you have - indeed, that is about the plug I put into my FJ1200.

You may well be right there, I read the wrong column for the year and read it as that one being for the 97-on.

Thanks again.

the steel tubes are the norm, I had a customer get the wrong size spark plug stuck in one, f*ck knows how he managed it !!

But an FR7DC has a 14mm thread, not a 10mm as per the OP

Duh, it was all my fault. Having taken the plugs out and found they didn't fit, I'd put the old ones back in and let the geezer have his car back as promised, then when it came to sorting out the proper plugs, I somehow allowed the small hex to convince me that it was a 10mm plug. Of course it wasn't. The BKR6EK fitted and now it's sorted. Sorry for the confusion, and thanks to all who helped.
