To simplify and cheapen the ignition system, some engines have two coils which feed two cylinders each. The spark is at the right time for one cylinder - but at the same time there's another spark in a cylinder on its exhaust stroke. Harmless - but wasted.
The breakdown service didn't replace the spark plugs, they only advised that they needed replacing.

No, any plugs which have been subject to being soaked in neat petrol from a flooding incident should be replaced.

Drop a spark plug before fitting it in the engine - just one example - and it's life will be dramatically reduced.
Hardly surprising, when most of a plug is made of ceramic material. I thaught we were talking about what might be considered as normal use. Mike.

Used Champion for years, failure very rare can't remember last time one failed. (fit them every day)

Had a champion plug fail within one day! Fitted them again and one went in a week. Tried them, stupidly, for a third time. One died within two weeks. Never again.
Yup, they are poo. I changed loads in Hyundais at 3-4000 miles, and they should have lasted to 10000 miles at that time. Once we fitted NGKs they lasted easily to ther next service.
Even in the early 80's, when most cars had plugs changed every 6000 miles, Honda got 15000 miles out of plugs. If you fitted Champions they usually did about 4000 miles.
Sounds about right. I used to reckon one in three was faulty from the box.
Still no news on why we should change plugs that have been flooded.

Sorry.. The escort. Had them out a couple of times for a look in the
20,000 I've done. Quick check over the receipts from when SWMBO had the car serviced and no-one charged her for a set of sparks. Seems this set have done 73K.I bought some 15k ago expecting to need to change them and they're sitting in the box still. Still firing in the first second of turning the key, no problems with economy.
Colour was fine in October.
They're supposed to stop working?
