starting problems

any advice welcome ok just picked up kitcar, which i know was running last year (it was a factory built kit as well so pretty well put together right)



there is nothing when we turn the key we replaced the battery the clock and the radio work ok, they are both live when the ignition is off now there are no ignition lights when the ignition is turned on, and nothing happens when i turn the key



now before i start stripping thing down (and please remember i aint no expert here) i am guesing that the problem would lie between the battery - fus box-ignition, now room is pretty tight in this car so stripping down as little as possible is a must

I assume you have had the battery off?

If so then you may have left a lead off.

If it's a kit car, I assume it has a g.r.p. body? The biggest suspect would be the earth connections.

if the main earth was down would the radio and clock still work? or are they working because they are getting a live feed from the battery and are earthed elsewhere?

its alright it just means i have to start ripping seats out and wearing my xray glasses to see underneath the tinyist of spaces i do suspect the main earth but it does mean stripping most of the interior out (the battery is behind the seats (which dont move)

i guess its a strip down jobby

Daft question but you have checked the ignition switch works?

Check the erthing strap fro the negtive battery lead to wherever it goes, and also the erthing strap from the engine or gearbox to wherver that goes. A poor connection can be ok for odd electrical items, but sinply fail to carry the load of the starter motor.

Knew a guy who had a bad earth strap from the engine - the strap got hot under load!

Check earths. Also check for corrosion of fuse terminals.
