Toyota Corolla A/C filter

Toyota Corolla 2006 5 door hatchback

I'm hoping that some one will be able to help me with a very minor diy problem on the above-mentioned car:

I would very much like to remove and inspect the air conditioning filter (if only to blow away some of the dust that must have accumulated over the past 2 years). The owner's manual says that the filter is behind the glove box, and gives instructions on how to get at it, which start: "Open the glove box. Remove the screw, slide off the damper...etc. etc."

The problem is that I can't identify the screw they are referring to. There's even a diagram which shows a pivoted arm, held by a screw, supposedly containing a damper of some kind. There's nothing that looks remotely like this on my car that's at all accessible, so I wonder how one is supposed to remove the glove box to get at the filter.

I'd be most grateful for any ideas.
