Hello,



I've just measured my tread depth and it is 6mm on the back, which is ok for now but 3mm on the front. I think I read somewhere - here? - that although the legal limit is 1.6mm, performance drops significantly after 3mm, so it is advised to replace tyres at 3mm depth. Have I got that right?



I also notice that the wear is not even on the front nearside tyre: the inside is balder than the outside. All other tyres have even wear. Is this from harsh cornering or is it a tracking problem? If cornering, why isn't the same side on the offside tyre also worn?

Yep.

NSF outer is going to get significantly greater hammer from roundabouts taken hard. If you live somewhere like MK with plenty of r'a'bs, then - yes - I would expect that.

Although that tends to wear the outside, inside edge being more worn is a warning for tracking, or bushes, normally tracking.

D'oh. Misread that.

Tracking would be even across both tyres. It sounds like bushes or something bent from kerb or roadside potholes.

Thanks. I notice that the inside of both front tyres, i.e. the side nearest the engine, is baldest. I will get them to check the tracking when they fit the new tyres.
