fiat uno 999cc fire 1993 5sp i want to top up the gearbox oil can i use standard 80w90 gearbox oil or does it have to be fiat gear oil. can i use the standard stuff when changing the gear oil cheers

What does it tell you when you RTFM? If it says to use 80w/90 then any 80w/90 will do as long as it meets either GL4 or GL5 as appropriate.

it says in the haynes manual fiat zc 90 gear oil

What about the owners manual? It usually gives a spec in there. I can't believe the HBOL only lists Fiat oil.

Use Fiat ZC90.

Normal EP Gear Oil contains sulphur compounds that attack some of the metal used in Fiat gearboxes.

It is not important to use Fiat branded oil but going from what you say, it should be oil that meets GL5 while avoiding oil that does not.
