Why not two-stroke cars?

I remember reading about that, and the Jaguar one. The Ford one was developed by Orbital. I don't remember anything about it being made of plastic. It used crank-case induction, with roller big-end bearings to minimise the amount of oil needed in the mix. There was some sort of valve in the exhaust that adjusted itself with revs to keep it in tune, so the torque curve in the test cars was very good. IIRC it was 1.2 litre and developed 90bhp.

All I read about Jaguar's was that it would be a 3.6 supercharged (I guess in place of crank-case induction) V6 and was intended to replace the V12. Looks like the supercharged 4-stroke V8 filled that role nicely instead.

Is that the "Cathedral" that Robbie Coltrane danced to?

The two on top of Soutra have gone - and never did have film in. The Scottish Executive decided that the northbound camera was somewhat badly placed...

(The one at the bottom, southbound, most assuredly does work. I know several people who've been done by it).

NSR's can be made to fly as well. Another mate had one which had been derestricted and with racing reeds. Would show 105 on the clock.

Much as I love two strokes, you can't beat the boot up the arse and neck hair raising scream of a big four stroke four at five figure RPM's :o)

The NSR is near-on impossible to derestrict as it's built to make 12bhp, rather than having an easily removable restrictor.

Trabants are/were two stoke. I'm pretty sure that some micro cars are two strokes as well.

That's was my reason for the RS125 not the Mito as that has to be rebuilt to be de-restricted rather than just replacing the power valve. Not that I was looking at the clock but 70/80 with it restricted was possible. 50 was more than quick enough for me... whereas 146 in a car isn't that "hair raising". ;-)

The one I meant was featured on Coltrane's Planes & Automobiles. He was dancing next to it because it had a really cool rhythm. It was a gigantic ship engine made in Italy, called a Cathedral because it was so big. He did say it was the most efficient, but I think it only had 8 cylinders, so it can't be the same one.

Hehehehe - plus there are LOTS of overtaking places on that road :D

It was an early 90's model, and I didn't witness it for myself. But I heard it from two people, one of whom was a garage mechanic who did some (non tuning related) work on it.

No-one bought an NSR to derestrict, as it really was a case of rebuilding the engine to do it. Even then, you wouldn't get the 33bhp you can quite easily extract from TZRs etc.And you certainly wouldn't see over 100mph from an NSR......

ISTR someone doing that in a Capri. Somehow, and don't ask how, he managed to find 1st gear.....at 70mph. I suspect that raised an equally hair-raising scream!

Probably basically the same, these engines can be built in a number of configurations up to 14 cylinder. The biggest went into a single engined, single screwed container ship, 108,000 hp @ 102rpm.
