Windscreen scum

It won't harm the paintwork, but may promote rust where there's a scratch etc as it contains salt to soften water.

Bit nth degree aint it mate? There's far worse out there. Bird s***, tree goo, road salt in winter, cyclists bouncing off the bonnet etc :-)

Smear a pot of grease on your car's bonnet and front wings. That will stop them climbing up there in the first place.

Windowlene is very dodgy in freezing weather - and I find it smears even in rain. So I never use it. Used Fairy liquid for years - no problems and "proper" screenwash in the winter. btw it could be the screen does need replacing. My trust 325i bmw's screen seemed ok to look at but smeared at most any use of the wipesr. I replaced the screen (by not quite the hammer method) and it was a huge improvement. The car had though be used for many rapid Autobahn trips and I'm sure that caused the problem.

I've used Autoglym glass cleaner

in the past and found it to be veryeffective. It's a bit like the old classic windolene (the pink stuff)in that you apply it to the glass allow to dry then polish the residueoff, it seems to have some extra solvents in that help to remove'traffic' film a bit more effectively than windolene manages. Of course YMMV!
