Haven't heard from the Gulf Coast crew yet. Looks like the Pensacola and Orange Beach (AL) areas were pretty decimated - at least what I heard on the radio. Power's still off at our house (150 miles inland). I came on into work so I could shave this morning. :-)

We were pretty lucky inland that the wind and rain died off a fair amount once it got up as far as we live.

Also glad you made it clear,, I lived in P-cola, FW Beach, Destin and Shalimar in the 60's-70's... "been there, done that"

been there done that also! I lived in Ft walton Bch in 92-93....

left homestead AFB about 6 months before it wasted homestead and florida city in 92.

Just got my power on. What a frigging ride. The worst storm I have ever whitnessed. Took a tree on the bedroom roof. Minor water damage. Most folks were not so lucky. This is also an announcement that our 8th Annual VW Car Show scheduled for Oct. 2 has been cancelled. Just too much destruction. Please pass the word out . I appreciate everyones prayers. Rode out the storm at the Retirement Home where I work. No injuries but what a scary feeling. All my VW's are aok. Have heard from Rare Air members yet . Got a call from Walt Morelan with LAVA VW club he made it safe and sound. Well people I have got a ton of survival work to do. Unless you have ever been through a Cat 3/4 it was one long night. We are so fortunate here in Scandinavia we are hardly ever/never hurt by mother nature, the odd storm or flood, but our (stuck for the right word here) social structure(Not the right expression) is almost bullet proof(wrong wording again..) our houses are fairly sturdy and most are not in flood waters way...

We had bad flooding a few years ago, but it does not aflickt(SP?) many compared to the U.S. of A.

Yes. Same thing here in Finland. I think you even get more rainstorms there in Scandinavia than here. All nice and comfortable compared to the weather they are receiving in the southern US.

No shorts ;) It's around 12 deg C daytime. Today was ok, it did not rain much at all. I've started to wait for snow. Beetle has winter storage settled, but it would need some maintenance before the snow. Well, maybe it will be ok, if I fix it in april...

Hi Gang, Thanks again for the concern and emails recieved. Still digging out from Ivan. Getting reports from club members as they get power back on. Know of 1 1978 Vert owned by club member that didn't make it . Storm surge pushed it a block down the road. Lots of water and impact damage. Will post a picture as soon as I can get it. Man this was no ordinary storm. It really kicked our asses. Will give updates soon as I get reports from other club members and their VW's. Take care,

I'll be here in May. Don't know if Jan will or not. Depends on how fast he recovers from this trip of me spending all his money. :D Actually, I'll be going for a week sometime between December and February. Then it's his turn to come back here, but we don't know when it will be or for how long because he's coming back again next October and staying for a fairly long period of time, like this trip. But you're more than welcome to come by any time, Timmy!!
