New Shocks and Springs

I just installed new AGX shocks and springs from the folks at Fly'in Miata on my '92 with 107,000 miles. I had the car aligned using the specs from Fly'in Maita. While the car handles much better, I think I will try the alignment specs from Miq Millman on the Miata.net.

I really, really like the adjustable shocks as I am able to set the dampening so they adequately control the springs and not jar the fillings out of my back molars on these nice roads in Pennsylvania. (Wife appreciates this, too.)

Unless you really Autocross, you may want to try the alignment of Lanny instead.

Thanks Leon.

I will experiment with Lanny's specs next if I find the car too unstable with Miq's specs.

The current alignment is:

Front: Caster: 5.38 deg Camber: -0.79 deg Toe: 0"

Rear: Camber: -1.55 Toe: 1/32" in

That's not a bad alignment, assuming both sides match and the car was ballasted with your weight on the rack. If your tires are wearing on the outsides, use a little more negative camber. If the car is darty on the highway, add some front toe in. If you like the way it handles, leave it alone.

They are relatively close to Millman's recommendations already, as far as I can understand it. What are you trying to improve most? Tossability? Or are you just seeing what is out there?

I was running 4.6 arc minutes to out front and rear for a while. Turn in was great but it did tend to hang out a bit at the ragged edge. Definate over steer possibilities but it never let go. Maybe I am just lucky? Robert

Thanks for the info Lanny. Many driving enthusiasts warned me that I might run out of adjustment with a lowered car. The technician that performed the current alignment was surprised that he was able to achieve the current specs.

Now that I reviewed Miq's specs again, your right, it is close. The biggest difference appears to be the front toe spec of 1/8" total toe out vs. my setting of 0".

Thanks for the suggestions. Will keep an eye on treadwear. Right now the car is not darty. I would be interested in getting a little quicker turn ins, ie. maybe a little front toe out.
