rear caliper frozen

Aug 27, 2003 2 Replies

I am working on freeing up the (sticking) rear calipers on a '91 Miata. It is the upper caliper pin/slider that is sticking. Mazda says that unlike the lower pins, the upper pins can not be purchased separately from the caliper itself. I dont want to purchase two new calipers if I can avoid it. Anyone got any ideas?

I rebuilt my rear calipers when one of them sprung a leak. But I just can't recall enough about the project to help with your problem. I do recall, though, that I found a local Miata junkyard in L.A. that would sell me calipers for $25 each. I almost went that route. As it was, the 2 unit rebuild kit was about $15.
