Just started up my 1996 1.8 MX5 after its winter rest.
Noticed after few minutes smoke coming from engine bay through bonnet,opened bonnet and traced source to what I think is the EGR? pipe on the exhaust manifold,it seems to be quite oily on the ouside which is causing the smoke when the engine becomes warm.

Can you tell if anything is dripping the oil from above?
One part that comes to mind immediately in this area is the cam angle sensor, which has a seal that is prone to leak.
I would take a look at the rubber heater hoses and see if they have oil on them. If so, the CAS seal is probably bad and it is a cheap and fairly easy replacement.

If the CAS O-ring has been leaking, also replace heater hose no.1 - it will be perished. Lots of people fix the oil leak and then suffer a catastrophic coolant loss (clouds of steam) a few months later.
If you re-use the OEM hose clips, you can replace the heater hose without removing the coil pack or CAS, but it's fiddly and you'll need some fairly long pliers.
Had a closer look and there seems to be slight trace of oil at the back of the head/block under the CAS,will need to remove it and change the O ring.
