speed3's

hi,

the speed3 came out in 07, right? all speed3 are hatchbacks?

in the previous years, there was the "s" option which offered a turbo, (right?), what are the differences in the "s" and the speed3?

what i would like to look at is

i think i want to lose the scion and buick and get something along the lines of a mazda*3 with a turbo in a sedan body...is/was something like that availble? thanks, peter

Yes, at least in the U.S. The European MPS version might have arrived a bit earlier.

Yes.

In the U.S., the 3s has a 2.3, no turbo. I have one. Only the Mazdaspeed3 has a turbo.

Not in the U.S., unless you add your own aftermarket turbo, in which case you don't get the MS3 suspension, LSD, or nifty torque-steer control system that makes the MS3 so successful. I doubt a factory turbo sedan is available anywhere else, either. The hatch is awfully useful, you know. I think it looks better than the sedan (but both are pretty ugly).

yeah, thats why i got the scion xa. i wannted the xb (see below). i wanna get rid of the xa and lasabre and get a ms3 sadan.. alas there is no ms3 sedan :(... maybe a m3 sedan with a smashed ms3 donor car....hmmmmm, i wonder

the swmbo's. (both of them mother/daugher), think the hb is hideous

hi lenny,

ithink you have, (did have?) both a s/c and a turbo. wanna do a compare/contract on them?

me, i prefer the s/c due to ease of install, (but a tuff job doesnt scare me), and the low - mid range power. if i were at redline all the time, i would go turbo.

your thoughts?

peter

No, neither. I drove a 6 psi supercharged Miata once; I was not impressed. I got a ride in a 12 psi FMII turbo Miata once; it was scary-fast.

I couldn't live with the rude, attention-getting noises of an aftermarket turbo, though.

If I wanted a stupid-fast Miata, I'd probably go the LS3 route. But I have no use for such a car. It wouldn't be any more fun that my stock

1.8.

As far as the Mazda3 goes, the normal 2.3 is plenty fast enough for a DD. I almost never need or use full throttle, I normally shift around

3000 rpm or less, and I skip gears a lot. It accelerates faster than the aforementioned S/C Miata did. Have you driven a 3 yet? Judge for yourself.

i know what you mean. (i ride a bike too and i really dont like the noise some of the riders make...not just cruisers, there are the ring- ding with the "off-road" noise cans too) turbos tend to be more quite than s/c. a "good" muffler can provide flow w/o excessive noise, i know, most hotrodders like the noise but i dont care for the volume...

not yet.

that is why i have a wife, so she can do that :)

thanks, peter
