Tire rotation - part 2

Jul 27, 2003 3 Replies

about to rotate my 02SE tires for 1rst time, a later than the general recommendations in here as i'm at 5k. the stock tires are uni-directional and (so far) plan to put rear to front, opposite side.

question.... should i have any worries about weight and balance during this change? my sense says that the weighting wont change given my rotation plan, so no worries.... and yet i'm worried due to ignorance...

I think that that advice is a long way out of date. It's my understanding that modern radial tires no longer have the issues that led to that practice being adopted.

Correct, unless the tires are directional. But a Miata that benefits from cross-rotation has an alignment problem. It shouldn't be necessary.

Front-rear rotation is essential if you expect to replace them down the road as a set. I recommend rotating at every oil change (3k miles) for soft performance tires, every other oil change for all-seasons.
