Was a Mazda 323 AWD model ever released here in america? I've been researching buying one but can't find anybody with one in america.

The BF series hatch with the 1.6l turbo engine - yes. The BG only as a sedan, in very small series. There are some people running turboed 4WD BG's in the US.
Yes, I think around 1985, 1986.
