Mercedes allegedly cancels new convertible...

( This sounds like complete nonsense from news service AFX. They would sell many convertibles for 25,000 euros. )

Mercedes scraps plans for new convertible - report

05.20.2005, 04:30 AM

FRANKFURT (AFX) - DaimlerChrysler AG's Mercedes Car Group has scrapped plans for a new convertible as the proposed price would have attracted too few buyers, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported, citing company sources.

The pricing structure, starting at 24,700 eur, was too high, the sources said.

Mercedes wants to increase its sales margin to 7 pct by 2007, and has initiated a cost-cutting and efficiency improvement programme in to achieve this.

As part of this plan, Mercedes wants to cancel production of models that are not cost-efficient in production.

The "cost cutting" mentality often means lower quality products and larger bonuses for the bean counters....

Good decision: Mercedes makes far too many models. Why make a cheap cabriolet.

I would guess that would have sold very well.

25,000 euros sounds reasonable. .
