Turn signals and hazard issue

Hi!, I have a 1984 300 Turbo Diesel. Recently my turn signals began working erratically. They would go into a 'fast blink' mode and then quit entirely. I've changed the fuse (even though the old fuse looked okay) and it would work for a moment and then demonstrate the same behavior.

Finally, they quit all together. I did some reseach and pulled the hazard switch on the console and cleaned the connectors, they worked again (for about five minutes) and now I can't get them to work at all

- tried changing the fuse, cleaning the contacts on the hazard connector all to no avail.

I'm not sure if the problem is the hazard relay, or the turn signal relay (which I cannot even find - but I know there is one since I can find the part referenced in other places).

So my questions boil down to:

  1. Where is the Turn Signal relay located on an 84 300 Turbo Diesel (My Haynes book does not show)
  2. Is it worth the effort to try to clean and reseat?
  3. What should I change first? The hazard switch lists at about and the turn signal relay at and I am poor.

Appreciate any help I can get

Thanks

first try getting OEM bulbs for the car, that might solve some of your problems

Turn signals do and should blink rapidly when one of the bulbs has burned out.

Nowhere do you say that you checked the bulbs - that's step one.

Always start with the simple stuff.

IF the bulbs all turn out to be good German bulbs..... the flasher is under the shift wood in front of the shifter and before the ashtray. You need to remove the ashtray assembly and lift up the shifter wood a LITTLE bit and slide it back to unhook the rear pin.

Okay, tried replacing the bulbs, no joy. Have all lights but no turn signal and no 4 way.

Try cleaning the fuzebox with an ink eraser on the end of a pen and replace ALL the fuses.

I will try this, and thanks. I've done everything else except replace the relays. I did clean the relay contacts and reseat them. They work sporadically. I took a 80 mile round trip today and they worked all the way there, but not at all on the way back. I am baffled.
