rev counter/wipers query

Hi

Yesterday the rev counter on our mini stopped working. I thought this was another problem with the 3 clock pod I fitted about 3 months ago because last week the light for the fuel/temp gauges stopped working (checked bulb, it was ok) then just started working again, its been ok since.

I just took it out in the rain and noticed the wipers are not working either, does the rev counter share a fuse with the wipers, and if so which one?

thanks

Gary

Don't think so.

Wiper motor fuse is in the fusebox the wires to it (the fuse) should be Light Green and Orange and Light Green and White. Connectors 5 &5 in the fuse box 3rd fuse down from the top.

I am not 100% sure but I don't think the the Tacho is fused seperately. The Tacho should pick up from the LT circuit on the coil so the fuse that would affect it would be fuse 1 but if that blew you would have no ignition.

Gary Sounds like you have some bad connections on your printed circuits at the back of the clocks, this would interfere with the rev counter and illumination, the wipers are a different fault, and I am not sure if they are connected via the same fuse,, I would start with the fuse box, what fuses do you have, glass or blade type, Fitzy

If you have a four fuse box then your third fuse down has blown. Did you try wiping the windows what the blades were iced to the windscreen? That will blow it every time!

You should find that your heater isn't working either. Haynes doesn't mention that the tacho is wired into it so people often assume it is something else causing it. New 25amp fuse time.

Hope that helps.

Also it's worth mentioning I had a similar problem on my Mini Cooper a while back whereby the fuse would always blow (in the 4 fuse box holder on the bulkhead) when the ignition was switched on and I'd end up with no wipers and no rev. counter and my wipers died in the rain too. Anyway after much messing around and head scratching it turned out to be a faulty/worn out wiper motor park switch that was causing the problems. So does your wipers still self-park? Even so check behind your wiper motor because it does tend to get wet and mucky and somewhere along the wiring loom the rev. counter is related to the wiper motor. Once I fitted a new park switch everything was fine again.
