power locks unlock and relock

Hi!

My brother has a '98 Mitsubishi. I have the model number in my suitcase if it is important.

His door locks work fine locking, iiuc, but when he tries to unlock the doors, they unlock and then bounce right back to the locked position. This happens if he uses the key, the alarm fob, or the button inside the door.

Any suggestions?

To reply to my own post :), I should say that if he uses the key just right, not too far and not too little, it seems to him, they door unlocks. And he can use the mechanical lock to unlock the passenger door from the inside.

And it's a '98 3000GT SL, I think.

Thanks for any help.

Sorry I can't help you out with this one but I'm currently having the same problem with my '91 Talon . On mine the passenger's door is doing what you described while the driver's door is ok.

That's interesting. I'm thinking that maybe I didn't check all the combinations, so I'm not positive both doors do this too, in my case. Maybe my brother was specifically having trouble opening the passenger door especially, and that is the one I was looking at, when I pressed the unlock button, and saw it move to the right (so that the entire red bar on the lock showed) and then move right back to the left without my doing anything.

Have a look inside the locking motor actuator inside the door. I had a similar problem in a '91 3000gt, one of the rubber stops inside the actuator had come off causing the motor to go to far then switch back in the reverse direction. Glued in another small piece of rubber and it has been fine ever since.

Hope this helps Phillip

I think so. I sent your post on to my brother. (I called later about something else, but got the machine.)
