I have the 1.5 liter mirage and noticed a broken sensor. The symptom is

EGR Valve solenoid. Fix the vacuum hose: your sucking in air where it should not, and this is the most likley cause of the problem. I'd also expect that the ECU is putting out an error code too. Is the Check Engine Light on?
Check all the other vacuum lines for splits and holes. If its all OK, disconnect the battery for 30 seconds to reset the ECU, then see how it runs.
