I didn't actually say you _can't_ but that it's just _way_ too much hassle and you need lots of extra bits from the donor car which makes the whole exercise pointless as a decent custom ECU, complete with remapping will actually cost you less than the extra donor bits needed, and certainly be a hell of a lot easier to do.
I won't hold my breath.
Bolt in, in this case, meaning that you have to weld up extra engine and gearbox mounts being careful to properly reinforce the shell in the appropriate places.
We will see, if I decide to use the 1.8T as that's not definitely the engine of choice I still fancy a V5 or if a good condition G60 comes along then I fancy the big brother to my G40 but they are a very tight squeeze.
No bolt in being bolt in.
I think the pills have gone to your head.
I stopped taking the pills long ago just after the psychiatric nurse stopped coming round.
Ah, it's an old Polo you have, I was thinking you had a Mk4 Polo. It's going to be a very tricky job getting a 1.8T into one of those, a V5 or VR6 will be a major job. I wouldn't even consider a V5 or VR6 into one of those due to the weight difference and being in a much lighter shell. Why would you want to do that to a Polo G40 anyway? Sell the G40 for a decent price and buy a decent basic model for peanuts. I don't really see the point of the V5. If you want economy you get a diesel or a 4 pot petrol engine, if you want performance you get a 1.8T or a VR6. The V5 doesn't have the economy or the performance, probably explains why it is so uncommon.
I do and that's the one my father has broken I also have a Mk2 carb'd.
Hang on, how many Polos do you have?
From your posts it seems you have a MkII G40, bog-standard MkII and a MkIV. Is this correct?
3
I've an early (before they moved production to Spain so it has square not round head lights) Mk2 1.1 classic (polo with a boot), a Mk3 G40 and a Mk4. Just last week I was looking at a Mk5 and an £80 Mk1.
Then I have the air cooled. ;)
Ahhh, MkIII changes things slightly when looking at engine swaps.
I was assuming you were swapping one into a MkII G40.
Argh!
MkIV, I should say, and MkIII G40.... doh!
(However, is a G40 really a MkIII, or just a facelifted MkII?)
Now that's a big debate, in reality the MkIII is a facelift of the MkII and the MkV a facelift of the MkIV, even the Mk1 was a facelift of the Audi 50. Probably why chaises numbers are used so much:
Mark 1 (Type 86) - 1980 -85 Mark 2 (Type 86c) - 1985-90 Mark 3 (Type 2F) - 1990-94 Mark 4 (Type 6N) - 1995-99 Mark 5 (Type 6N2) - 2000-02 Mark 6 (Type 9N) - 2002- (2006 expected)
It's the Fiesta Mk3.5 all over again ;-)
Nobody cares, Nobody cares, Dum de dum de doo.
It just amused me - one phrase criticising something else of being technically incorrect being technically incorrect itself. Oh, the irony. And yes, I do have better things to do. Occasionally.
