My brother has one of the "last" shaped crew cab animals. He reckons the box is a mess and crunchy as s*it (on a new car). Mitsu say "yes sir they all do that" Got me to google around as he doesn't do internet. Seems yes they do all do that. They are crunchy as they are from a
7.5tonne truck. Rough, heavy industrial, slow synchros shifts (which leads to crunching when you drive it like a car not a wagon). Fairly strongish but not actually designed for a turbo diesel motor, but a petrol and NA diesel version.
Can you get a Vito / Viano built to your requirements? Because Brabus can get a V8 under the bonnet, and you know it makes some sense, or if it doesn't make sense they come with a 224 (chip to 280bhp) diesel as well.

OK, should be better but won't handle torque too well. Ask Saab and Saab tuners about GM autoboxes and limiting performance for Auto models. Actually, V6 and GM auto. Sounds like a Saab ;)
Mmmm Well all the drag/street US cars seem to stand a lot of abuse!
