Chipped UK

Anyone got any experience of this company? They are offering great value ECU remaps and I'm thinking of one for my VW Golf GTI 1.8T AGU, but I'm not going to part with any cash until I've heard some recommendations. Any advice gratefully received.

At the risk of massaging your ego, I've just checked your history and see that you are a nasty little troll who drifts about the newsgroups making provocative posts just to get a response from people. I've been arguing with idiots like for you all my life and have come to realise that your like prefer negative attention to none at all. Frightened that everyone would ignore you if you didn't hide behind your keyboard throwing out snide remarks? Bless.

Obviously I'm giving you your little kick by even bothering to point this out, but there you are. Anyway, I'm guessing that people on this group are pretty familar with your particular brand of twattery.

Never heard of them. Tried the MK4 and GTi forums on the web? TBH it's not exactly an expensive process - all the expense is in making the original map, and then they just copy the map to your car and whoever else's car and so on and so forth. The problem is if the map's shit (ie, leaning out) you can kill an engine pretty quickly, but I'd think a MK4 would be pretty well protected from that with knock sensors etc.

Yeah, I came up with their name on the MK4 forum. There was a right old barney on there between a guy from Chipped UK and the regulars on the forum, which put me off a bit. That was back in January and there's been hardly a mention of them since. They are now an official advertiser on the MK4 website and their own site looks pretty swanky:

. They seem to specialise in BMWs, but since they only turbocharge their diesels I don't know how good their VW remaps would be.

I really want to speak to someone who's had one of their remaps for a fair while. People who've just had a remap are like kids on Christmas morning, so they're bound to be biased. I need to speak to someone whose lived with it for a few months to make sure it didn't shag their engine.

Russ.

TBH unless the map was drastically wrong (ie, a few bods who've tried cocked up 1.8T installs on MK2 Golfs) your engine is likely to deteriorate a bit quicker than it otherwise would, rather than die within a few thousand miles. The engine might last until 150k instead of 200...

I take it you dislike chipping hammers then, fine tools of the mason and the archiologist that they are.

He mentioned a compnay with chipping in the name, and was discussing an ECU remap. it might be that his requires a chip swapped or a piggyback unit before he can have the remap. Some GTTI golfs were remappable stock, others required modification before reprogramming and tuning on the rollers.

Just go to Jabbasport. People I know swear by them.

I'd love to, but it's all about the money. I think they're about =A3200 more expensive than this mob.

I'd hardly call him a troll, he wishes he was but he's just not very good at it. He's more of a lonely person seeking attention.

If the price on something seems to good to be true. It probably is.

It's not like they've got a raw material costs. All they have is wages and overheads to pay. Say you spend a grand's worth of time making a map (not likely), and you sell 5 a month at £500 a pop, or 10 a month at £300 a pop, you're better off selling 10, but either way you'll make money...

In terms of trolling, last year an arrogant Exeter loony that was trolled by me, ended up owing £38k legal costs, after failing in a action against me, where he was claiming £100k compensation in regard to being trolled on here!

Interesting to see any independant dyno testing, regarding the miracles to be had by fitting a chip costing the maker about £1.50................

I'd love to, but it's all about the money. I think they're about £200 more expensive than this mob.

If you dont have much money, why on earth do you want to waste what you have on mods that dont work?

You weren't trolling him, you and your two mates decided to make false allegations against him and he decided to take you to court. Unfortunatelly he was as big an idiot as you and chose to represent himself and to go after your ISP's. Obviously he was never going to win against the ISP's and the judge basically told him to not waste his time going after you because you don't have any assets of any value "They may not be persons of substance, such as to make it worthwhile pursuing them"

There were no "false" allegations, and the reason he went after the ISPs, was because he thought suggesting he had become impotent as a result of being trolled here, would net him a £100k payout!

It isn't the cost of the silicon slug. It is the hours of dyno time mapping the car, and knowing how to read=20 those changes, and build a proper 3d fuel/ignition/turbo response map,=20 without melting the customers engine. kind of improves business. I mean can you see "Go to company X, they melted two pistons and snapped my crank, but they=20 were a 1/4 of the price of Company Y who tuned Stig Blomquists=20 rallycross car" ever doing anyone any good in business, can you?

Like I've told ken, it is the 2-3 hours tuning the map to suit the car=20 that makes the biggest difference.
