When did the TDV8 come about?
Does this sound like a bit of a home modded bodge?

Couple of years ago, tops. I'd have thought the engine alone from a bent recent one would be worth more than the £850 he's asking.
My guess would be either it isn't a TD, just a normal v8 or the "3.6" is wrong and it's one of the big yank v8 wheezel conversions.
Maybe a rare prototype V8 diesel based on the Rover V8. A guy I used to know that worked for LR said they sent the test drivers out with bus fair home as the normally didn't make it back in one piece.
The size sounds right for a proper TDV8 though.
I suspect that the electromagic bodgery required to make a proper TDV8 run outside of a Range Rover would be worth £850.
Dunno though.
