Huh?

Yup, true.

Surely it doesn't help quite as much with German though? I suppose it does have some influence in pretty much any language though.

Yup, some French pronunciations are a bit funny, but no more than a lot of english words when you think about it. I still think my ok-ish knowledge of French could help me a fair bit in other Romance (latin-derived) languages.

It's odd, but German has a strong Latin basis. Der Kaiser for example, is simply the German spelling, but the correct Latin pronunciation of Caesar.

Hmm yes, does seem a bit odd, doesn't it? It was jammed in behind the local Horsewatch 4x4. I did think this may have confused the pikey mind. The 4x4 is a SSang Yongg Rexton (never can get those SS's and gg's right) covered with fluorescent strips and it has the word "POLICE" on it in large letters. Though that's more to do with sponsorship than anything else. I wondered if they had seen it and panicked. Mr 'Orsewatch was in the coop buying crisps.

Never did Latin at School. Until not long before I joined, it was still a standard sylabus subject, but was dropped just before.
