I'm liking a lot, but would structural strength be an issue?

so what your trying to is you dont like BM's? or wouldnt pay that much for one...

fair enough. but to someone who likes them it's easily worth 1k+

and the BM is used for the Mrs' "work run" we have the sillier cars *as well* as the BM ;o)

Not really, I'd quite happily own that 7series my mate has. I think I don't like the image and the price premium that BMWs attract. 7series of that generation is reasonably understated, comfy, depreciated frighteningly already and quite fast. Case in point I bought a tidy but not immaculate '92 2.6 Vauxhall Carlton a year ago (almost to the day) for £350. Its got toys, RWD, a proper sized engine, quite fast* etc, but all the BMW owners I see selling cars of a similar vintage want silly money as far as I'm concerned.

To be fair, some Italian car owners do the same thing. Doesn't seem to afflict french and 'british' cars to the same extent, unless they've been badboyed.

Crazy don't you think?

Good lad. BM isn't silly, just overvalued by some in its context as an aging hack.

*quite fast is a relative term, my last car was a Peugeot 205 Diesel(!)

Meanwhile, in the real world, old E30s are worth slightly less than sod-all these days.

An E36 might command that kind of money, but E30s are just knackered old clunkers now.

To be honest, I'm living in the real world of real used car prices, not what some gullible fool will pay based on Parkers.

How shallow is that though "the image", if I like a cars styleing and performance, f*ck everyone else i'll buy it! and 7 series are for people with fat arses : P

As a matter of a fact... no... £870 with 1 day to go is not a bad price at all, the engine alone costs £500 from a scrappy and the wheels are worth at least £300 with tires, I can't be arsed to try and convince you because you have got that "yoyo biatch" or "i paid more than you for my car" in your head when ever you see a bmw.

oh i see :)

In your opinion... but your opinion is far from a fact.

Yes you are right and everyone else is wrong *pats head*.

Note to self: look for a 7 series.

Check out Autotrader.

Didn't take me long to find a handful of 325is from dealers, with warranties for less than £600. That means a drive-away price of under £500 - and close to £400 if you take it on trade terms without warranty.

I note there's also come Bauer 323i cabrios out there for under a grand, too.

lol, i suppose ill need one soon as well ^_^ 19 now only 6 years untill i can actually afford to have a nice car!

Fair enough but do they have nice alloys on them and chrome trim (hard to tell in trader pics i know).

'Nice' alloys don't add to the value of a car, if anything, they detract from it for most people.

Plus, later cars with black trim are worth more than earlier ones.

In news:civ517$pts$ snipped-for-privacy@news8.svr.pol.co.uk, REMUS decided to enlighten our sheltered souls with a rant as follows

There's a K reg later shape 320i on the A41 in New Ferry for £700. It's been there for weeks. There's a 318is Coupé round the corner from me for sale for £1400. That's also been for sale for weeks. BMWs are no more special than Mondeos, so they're not worth much more anymore. Face it, there's more 3 series BMWs on the roads than Mondeos nowadays. The premium days are over.

I was really surprised to find that for 2003, you're right - 65,000 3 series sold vs 60,000 Mondeos. The blue oval is ahead in 2004 so far though.

Autotrader has a choice of more than 60 3 year old Mondeos for under 4 grand. Cheapest is £2,295.

Cheapest 3 year old 3 series is 8 grand with interstellar mileage.

Buyers and sellers don't appear to have heard yet.

OK, so the BMW has lower initial depreciation, but once they're a couple of generations old, they're worth the same as said Mondeo.

Why did they make the mistake of pulling the tarpaulin off?

The reason why the depreciate slower is as follows, they are a better car thus people will pay more for them for a longer period of time. If you really want to take the elitest route "that people are idiots and dont know what they are buying" you are no better than those people that create the image you hate so much.

You are quite obviously bias against bmw's, we are oppisite in our tastes for instance I hate alfa's they are the most butt ugly things in production imo and I do not like front wheel drive cars in any guise, + your lovly statement "'You're not a real petrolhead unless you've owned an Alfa Romeo'".

Its like me putting "your a c*ck unless you have owned a bmw" in my sig.

:P

They have lower depreciation based on their perceived status. BMW have been s**te since the E36, but the general public still buy them on the strength of the badge on the bonnet. The reality is that they're no better than the mainstream competition these days.

I'm not particularly biased against BMWs, some of my 'must own at some point' cars are BMWs - namely the E30 318iS, M3 and the E28 M5. I think the M6 would be in there, too.

It's just that _modern_ BMWs are utter shit.

As for the quote, it's not mine, it's just something that caught my eye

- it just so happens to be true.

'You're a c*ck if you drive a BMW' would be much more accurate.

Bugger it, I give up, you still havnt actually proved anything... just attacked people who drive bmw's for not knowing they are um... shit without giving any reasoning.

I still think bmw's are better than Alpha's though :P

Given that you can't even spell 'Alfa' as in 'Alfa Romeo', then I think we can take your opinion with a pinch of salt.

Ahhh, that explains it. The 'street' spelling and age tell me exactly what I need to know about you and your opinions.
