brilliant cars. one of the few hot hatches that really doesnt need lowering.

could do with a less restrictive exhast and fannymold but what hatch couldnt?

Prefer my eurobox :)

The engine is best left as standard, in my opinion. It doesn't need anything doing to it - the 1.9's grunty feeling is just right.

My only reservation is that they demand the driver to just try that little bit harder. If you don't commit yourself 110% you can feel the car making snide remarks about you when you park up.

Trouble is, when you start pushing harder and harder (which is addicitive), you overcook it. When you overcook it, the car becomes strangely silent.

they are fine if well maintained. Buitl to thrash.

See if you can find one with a decent manifold and exahaust on it. as with all french cars they are super restrictive. The difference doensnt "chav" it at all but it jsut releases alittle bit more "go" which is always nice :o)

other than that i wouldnt touch one. If i ever get offered or find a decent

1.9 i'll snap it up.

Know what? I so want you to be wrong now. (c:

No no no, cos that means i'm wrong :)

"Peugeot got the exhaust system bang on - it flows well, has good tuned lengths and an excellent manifold design - whatever you do, don't waste money on an aftermarket system - you won't get more power - you'll probably get a fair bit less. When it rusts away go and buy a genuine Peugeot item - not a pattern part"

thats his opinon. i'm sticking to mine.

He's, er, rather a well respected tuning bod :)

your still labouring under the opinion I care.

IMO a less restrictive manifold is good on a GTI.

So, you like to reduce power?

Interesting....

But as stated above, most aftermarket manifolds are /more/ restrictive. So stick to the Peugeot one, or is it too expensive for you and not bling enough?

A decent after market was IME less restrictive. thats all i'm saying :o)

A previous shape 7 at that price will have been to the moon and back, surely? Or do you mean the one before the previous one?

The 740 is the pick of the range, hands down, but the six-pots are fine for motorway crusing duties. I never did get round to replacing my 535 so I may end up just getting a 7 when it falls to bits.

N-plater. 140k-ish miles, which is nothing for one of those.

Bloody hell, can't argue with that! Might have to have a look around in April when my bonus comes in.....
