misterjung

did someone say they had order HID lights from Misterjung.com?

How did you get arround the need for self levelling?

Considering looking for an upgrade to the pitiful standard lights on the Saab, and if I'm going to be replacing the reflectors and lenses I might as well really update the lighting.

Any probs with MOT's?

I noticed that Deamen tweeks list there HID kits as "for off road use only" after looking to upgrade the G lighting.

Try a couple of "Philips vision plus" bulbs first, suprisingly effective... :)

Not personally, but I know people who have.

Jung is the place to go, if you want a HiD kit. Ronny will vouch for him too.

Simple - you just don't bother.

Yep. If you want decent lighting, HiD is the only way to go.

Not that I know of. It would be wise to speak to your local MOT guy first though.

I've got them in mine right now. They are better than stock bulbs - but not a patch on a HiD kit.

I like the look of the neon/Flourescent flicker when they fire up though :)

i wanted this kit after ron posted about it months back. trouble is the kit is worth more than my car :)

still at the end of this year/early next year i'm considering a kit on whatever car i decide on :)

I used the AA garage last time. they were disappointed with the light output (but the engine wasn't running) so he even checked that it was connected properly.

After checking that the beam pattern was atleast correct he set an advisory. Very dim. But passed them and said "I wouldn't be, but if you are happy, I'll let it go through".

shoudl think they will be stunned if it turns up with HiDs instead of Halogens :)

Problem with all the high-output or high-efficiency halogens is bulb life - under 90 hrs for many of them, as opposed to 200 -400hrs for standard and

400-800 hrs for longlifes. Longlife in my dipped beams, high output in main beams for me!

Ive had the kit for year and a half now, you have seen my lights Carl at that meet, I couldnt do without them now :) the bulbs have a 2000hr life :) and dont cost loads, and my car has passed MOT's fine, but remember I have light washers, you need these as the HID bulbs dont get hot so dont clean of snow etc like halogen, but I am not using a Projector type lens yet, not untill I can afford them :P

Yeah but only cos you've got a volvo and can't actually turn your lights off.

In article , snipped-for-privacy@ron114.com spouted forth into uk.rec.cars.modifications...

Cheers Ronny mate.

Yeah, I have light washers. I have light wipers too. :)

Surely it's MUCH more likely that your reflectors are shafted then.

On my first 405, the reflective silver became tarnished and dull, giving a pitiful light output. MOT man ended up taking the reflector out, and spraying it with some silver spray paint which did the trick.

Today's exchange rates, mean they work out a little over £200.

Thats why I was thinking about it. A pair of Philips white vision type ones come out at about =A330 a pair,=20 and the Saab lenses are about =A330 each and the reflectors about =A340=20 each.

I could fit the lamps first massively improve the candle power I get=20 now, and then do the reflectors first as cash allows, and the lenses=20 with decent second hand ones as they become available, and have=20 massively improved lights.

Me too - I've just never got round to it :)

Mine were about £9 from eBay.

You don't need to replace either - assuming your reflectors are tarnished, you just need to make them shiny again. Silver spray-paint worked a treat on my old 405.

Yep.

Yeah, pretty tarnished. Almost grey infact.

The MOT tester was dubious of the brightness even with the 80/100 watters in, but he did test it with the engine off. Lights are brighter, but not by much when the engine is running.

Was pretty worried about right royally screwing the reflectors, as they peel/flake if you attempt to even clean them.

Might try to get either some silver foil stick down film (like Aircraft modellers use) or some of the Chrome/High metallic silver paint.
