Yep - that's exactly what mine were like !
Sticking-on is never gonna work. Unless you can do a PERFECT job, you're gonna knacker the beam geometry. Just get some boggo silver spray paint, and then laquer it when you're done. Takes about 30 seconds - it worked fine for me. The worst that can happen, is that you have to go over the top with some fancy "more reflective" paint.
