MK1 Golf Coliovers

Nov 14, 2007 3 Replies

Owite People,

I have a 82 Mk1 Golf and need to get some decent coilovers without breaking the bank, any ideas? Was considering the Jamex or Gmax ones but seem to have mixed reviews, nice to know whats the real verdict. Anyone used Supersport??

Theres others knocking bout on ebay for cheap, but branded german with no makes so bit weary of these.

Previously had FKs on me mk2, but was just height adjustable and cost bout =A3350, but found ride preety hard, although handling was the bollocks.Dont really wanna trail and error them like spring/dampers coz bit costly so valid feedback from Mk1 Nuts required.

Thanks In Advance JINSTA

Hmmm.... "Jamex". A company who changed name to try and disaccociate themselves from their own product. Read into that what you will.

Never tried the coilovers, but I have tried Jamex springs (many years ago admittedly). They are the only ones I have ever used that gave a completely bone jarring ride, yet still managed to lean into corners too much. How the hell they managed that I will never manage to work out.

It's your bargepole though, and you are free to touch what you want with it. Rather you than me though :)

KW shocks seems to be pretty sorted on VW cars.

I read somewhere Jamex and Gmax are the same company, either way they're the bottom of the ladder budget suspension. I used Weitec suspension on my Corrado and found them to be excellent for the money, not coilovers but they sell reasonably priced coilovers too. You'd probably get a better answer on the Club GTI forums from people who have tried the different makes.
