MK2 Golf tailgate loom

It seems that one of the lamps that isn't working on my tailgate may be down to the wiring rather than the bulb - I've swapped bulbs but I'm yet to check the voltage with a multimeter. Anyway - does anyone know if the wiring runs around the bottom of the boot / rear panel, or does it come straight from the fusebox, under the roof lining? Are there any connectors which commonly pack up?

ISTR that the lamp loom conmes under the carpet and the bottom of the boot panel. Left-hand side, I think, but not certain. The only lamps in the tailgate are the numberplate lights- they come from the roof, through some trunking.

Oh buggerance. Yes, they are the numberplate lights. I'll have to try some meddling.

When my mumberplate lamps packed in on a Scirocco years ago, it was the earth lead undera fixing screw- it was corroded. The scres can be hard to get out as the heads rust.
