Sounds to me you're more fussed about a load of inconsequential f*****ts (1) being able to get hold of you at any time than your work given your earlier comments... and like I said before, given the game you're in, i.e: IT Support, that's almost certainly why you're still treading water rather than jumping up the ladder.

When I worked in a copyshop about 10% of my work was photocopying and faxing documents for customers who had been ripped off by Caudwell Group (and lending a sympathetic ear to their rants). 15% was doing the same for NTL customers...

We have people who have to be available 24/7 they are an outsourced company. It is there job to make sure that nodody at the office is ever needed, and if someone is ever needed, it will either be the Development manager because software has failed, or the MD because they need to authorise a purchase. During hours, I would deal, getting the authorisation myself.

This job has set hours, and a set salary. I could offer to work outside the normal hours, I could build up stupid amounts of flexi, but it is capped at 10 hours at the end of the month.

I used to be the one who would stay behind until the job was finished, sometimes pulling all nighters then going home in the morning, but after being docked pay for not being at work one day (after following absence procedure once I got home), the morning after 22 hour shift (not leaving the office until 7am the same morning after being asked to stay until it was finished as it had to be live before 9AM) once too often, I don't freebies.

If I'm told I'm getting paid I do it, if it is part of the normal salary I don't. I've done a few weekends when asked, as it has been quite explicitly stated it is paid overtime. But I have contract, a job description that states hours and a salary. Why would I work for free?

Is that the current lot or the previous ones? We all know your old employers were a bunch of tossers - aren't the new ones any better?

If I pulled a 22 hour stint (very unlikely, but possible), there's no way I'd not be getting time off in lieu - and it would be assumed I'd take it, rather than me having to ask.
