OT: Geeky USB question

Is it possible to somehow send power out of a USB port even if the PC thinks there's nothing connected?

Basically my g/fs got a Motorola V3 and when I connected it up to the PC when she first got it I noticed it also charged the phone which is handy. However it wont charge when the battery is completely flat, as I guess it doesnt know anything is connect. Any ideas on how to fool it into sending some power?

Cheers

Carl

ohh didn't know bout that, think my motherboard has that didn't know what the point was, might try it hehe
