OT: v6 what's the point!

Just out of interest what's the difference in engine/cylinder capacity?

Same cylinders with 6. I think the Porsche is a 3.6 and the Nissan is a

2.6. The Porsche of course costs roughly 3 times as much.

you cant compare a beautiful german racecar to some ugly japcrap

You can compare anything to anything. The Porsche and the GTR are a pretty common comparison. I read an article on the two a couple of months ago in a magazine. FWIW the conclusion was the Porsche was the better car but not worth 3 times as much.

If you think a Skyline has soul, then you've obviously never driven anything that does have.

HTH.

And have you ever driven one :) ?

I read a review that described it as a 'car for the PSX generation'

That's good enough for me to know it's going to be dull ;-)

Butcha don't actually know do you :) ?

OK. I'll bite.

It's nothing more than a big 200SX. Which were _very_ dull. Father in Law had one. It was quick, and gripped, but it was a Nissan. Enough said.

I have :-D

They're fun, but not great fun. 911s are *much* more fun.

'Cept they have more power, 4wd, and hosts of other cool stuff, and have very little in common with the 200SX - so you don't actually know whether Skylines are soulness or not, do you :) ? Even though i am sure they are, too much computer help :D I'm just bored :)

The GTS is quite good fun once you get it to about 400 bhp, very sideways... GTRs are, if anything, less fun.

Besides, it's a coupé the size of a bloody Scorpio with an interior from a Nissan Micra...

souls

Would you say they have soul?

Fraser

PS Both cars are great fun. The Porsche is more fun because it bites when cornered.

Bitch. S13 or 406 lookalike S14? Odd you say it gripped most people have problems keeping the backend in line.

GT-R 2.6, 911 3.6. But you don't compare directly you use specific power to compare engines.

2004 911 444/3.6 = 123bhp/litre 199? GT-R 276/2.6 = 106bhp/litre 198? 300ZX 280/3 = 93bhp/liter 1989 200SX S13 169/1.8 = 93bhp/litre 1994 200SX S14 205/2 = 102.5bhp/litre 1999 200SX S15 250/2 = 125 bhp/litre

Looks more like you are comparing engines of different ages. Engine technology has moved on and power output per litre has moved up over time.

911s are my favourite car of all time, so I'm slightly biased, but here goes...

Skylines have more soul than something like a Mitsu GTO, but less than a

911. If you give a Skyline some proper welly it's fast, very bloody fast, but it doesn't feel like it's alive, it feels like someones idea of a fast car doing what a fast car is meant to. If you get one sideways and control it on the throttle, it'll stay there all week, sideways as you like, but it's not that much fun to do. They're too big to hustle down my favourite B roads, the ride quality is very "sudden", and they don't really involve the driver in the same way as something like, for example an Escort Mexico. They're a fast car alright, but if you want to make one dance you've got to let it take control occasionally. The GTS is more fun due to being rwd and still having the 4 wheel steering.

on the other hand, every time I've driven a 911 I've got out of the thing with a huge smile on my face. I drove a Turbo from Germany to Blackpool once and even though it was loud and a bit nervous it was an absolutely fantastic car. Probably my best drive of all time in fact. Either that or Amsterdam to Brussels in a 900cc Seicento (don't ask)

I really like my GTS-t. The GTR is good fun but takes a lot to get out of it. You have to be doing seriously crazy speeds to get to it's edge. Most fun car I have ever driven was a Lotus Elise. Talk about a go-kart.

the old Elan SE (The fwd Turbo) was a spectacularly fun thing to drive as well. Only thing was they don't feel that quick til you look at the speedo.. I caught myself doing 80 in a 40 more than once last time I drove one.. Not a wise car for me...
