My mistake, I read that as GT-R for some reason.
"the RB25DET weighs about 720 pounds"
So until you prove otherwise, you're blowing it out of your arse.

I think you are way off on the Falcon weight as well. And is it a long or short motor? RB25DET and RB26DETT are vastly different motors.

You'll have to do better than "I think". At least I'm having the decency to provide references for where I got the information.
Have I said otherwise?
so why do bmw persevere the straight engine over the V?
Me too they sound better drive better, but only in rear wheel drive configuration.

U.S.P.
There's only the Partridge Lexus and most BMW's that still have a straight 6 that are in common use. BMW use it because they're bloody good at building them, although they still seem to have a problem with the heads cracking on high mileage ones. The Partridge Lexus only really has a straight 6 in Europe because it was designed to take on the 3 series. The GS300 has one because it was designed to take on the 5 series and Mercedes E class, both of which still had I-6's when the GS was originally designed. It's "snob appeal". The Toyota Altezza, which is a Partridge mobile without the fancy badge, very often runs a turbo'd four pot in Japan. It's quicker than the feeble
150 bhp IS200 an all.. The IS300 is just a case of "we've got a 3.0 in the GS, it doesn't sell very well, and the 330i is kicking our Oriental arses, so lets shove it in the IS200" Of course, BMW use a V8 when they want proper power outputs, and rightly so.In news:cd6gos$qpc$ snipped-for-privacy@news6.svr.pol.co.uk, REMUS decided to enlighten our sheltered souls with a rant as follows
Weirdly enough, I prefer the sound of a good V6. Straight six is just a hollow bellow, V engines tend to have a bit of character to them. I once drove an E280 Mercedes (I6) back to back with an E270? (V6) and the V6 was vastly nicer to drive, I6's always seem to feel like they're working harder than a V6. That was certainly the case with the two Mercedes. Same thing with a 3.2 XJ8 vs a 3.2 XJ6.
Skylines are the exception.
Becuase its wider numb nutts, it still has to encase the same amount of pistons.
You might want to add a further 2 words to that:
Alfa Romeo.
why do you have to be such an ass, you have your weights wrong I know that much, but heres some food for thought becuase i couldnt find actual engine weights:-
Nissan 300ZX Engine Size: 2960cc Valves: 24 Cylinders: V6 Forced Induction: Twin Turbo
0-60: 5.6 sec Top speed: 155 mph BHP: 280Nissan Skyline GT-R Engine Size 2568cc Valves: 24 Cylinders: Straight 6 Forced induction: Twin Turbo
0-60: 5.4 sec Top Speed: 160 mph BHP: 276392cc lower capacity but similar engine stats, yet the skyline is 5 mph faster and 0.2 seconds faster to 60, the engine has 4 less BHP so the straight 6 must be a better engine and as we know a skyline can be tuned to
1000 bhp+ a 300ZX lump cant...
Ducati make amazing engines, recent Alfa contributions havnt been as good to say the least, but you can hardly compare them anyway.
We have a straight 6 BMW that popped at 280k miles and another engine that temp replaced it at 310k but they were both ex company cars with full bmw service history which I reckon is the reason they are so reliable its simply forced regular maintainance if you stick to bmw's recommended maintainance religiously.
I've seen oil changes like glue in some cars that havnt been looked after.
And the relative weights of the cars are what?
You've not driven a car with the Alfa V6, have you?
I've been in one while he thrashed it from Newtown (mid-wales) to Aberstwyth along amazing road's although im sure there is more than one incanation of the Alfa V6 and I was in an early model, cant remember the reg tho. I enjoy'ed it but i'm sure I would of enjoyed it if it was a straight 6!
No way look at what your driveing, luxuary comfort class cars, not sports cars. You only need to look at the carlton 3.0 GSI or its big brother the Lotus carlton to see straight 6 old school.
You need better comparisons if you want to compare engine notes.
Not even after I gave you the URLs? Are you going for some sort of award for stupidity?
That would make it "the same", not heavier. However you will find that a V6 is shorter than half a straight six.
And you overlooked the fact that the crankshaft is shorter.
And lets not forget the minor differences in transmission....
And in terms of top speed, I'm pretty certain the ZX has been limited.... 155mph seems far too familiar.
