Rover 214. Promises 10bhp and some torque, not much but it all counts I suppose. The off putting bit is the price. £275! £27.50 per bhp.

Well what does the standard Rover 214 put out? If it's 100bhp (I don't know the figures) then that's a 10% increase, not bad - if it's less than 100bhp then the gain is even more impressive.

I can't find the Rover 214 on the superchips site but I'm not looking seriously. The nearest I can see is the Rover 25 1.4 and that offers 6bhp for £293.75

However, I think that superchips tend to sell "plug and play" devices rather than properly remappable (tailored to your engine using a dyno) ones. These'll be based on one example of a just run-in engine and then simply reproduced in a one size fits all fashion.

Of course your car will be unique not least because of manufacturing tolerances but the way in which the engine is worn, any current modifications you have etc etc so a tailored one is always the best choice, though can be more costly. In any case you have to make sure your engine is in tip top condition before asking it for more power. The best power mod for the neglected engine is a thorough service!

On the plus side, although the power and torque gains look modest, power and torque are simply figures - how the engine responds is just as important. If it can access that power more of the time, or earlier in the rev range, you'll have a quicker car in the real world.

Trouble is, you're only starting there with a naturally aspirated 1.4 engine so you're never going to end up with much of a discernible performance gain without spending megabucks - which would be better spent on selling the 214 and buying something faster in the first place (preferably with a turbo as you can cheaply easily and safely make decent gains with those).

I wouldnt bother TBH. Sell the 214 and buy a 216/220 instead!

Spend it on a small Nitrous kit instead - chipping NA cars is just not always worthwhile

Mayve decent (enclosed) induction or CAM(s)?

superchips are not the most worthwhile mod you could be doing at this stage...or at any stage. wait till there are a few more mods and get a remap on your standard ECU ratrher than an "off the shelf" job like a superchip.

Waste of time on 99.99% of normally-aspirated engines.

If you want more power, then sell your 214 and buy a 216, 218, 220, 220 Turbo, etc. etc.

I understand the comman sense sections of it, and I know where your comming from, it would just be reassureing to see your kit and how you installed it. Anything involveing pressureised explosive gas deserves to be treated with the utmost cation and respect as im sure you know and I wouldnt want to tinker about with it unless I was confidant in the parts and the integrity of the entire system.

How much did your kit cost in comparison to a production kit of equivilant bhp?

Very nice site, although the green links are doing my eyes in!! One question - the Go Faster Stripes page, the picture at the bottom of the nova, do you know who it is, where its from? I have a very similar photo (and video) of a good mates nova in exactly the same postion!

If you read, you would understand that it is almost the same as C02 and FAR from explosive!

I never sold, or will sell "kits" because its never going to work out unless I charged as much as NOS and TMC (Highpower)
