Supra Twin Turbo or R32 Skyline GT-R

Jan 09, 2006 117 Replies

Skyline has more electrickery, which is good, but given it'll be 12 years old, it could be a big PITA.

Oh, and apparently there is only one respected garage for Skylines (according to exchange and mart) in the country.

Sooo..... how about a 300ZX and £4k of change?

Not even slightly in the same league. 300ZX is a bloated boulevard cruiser. GTR is a sports car. 300ZX also suffers massive reliability problems from cramming a twin turbo V6 under a tiny bonnet with terrible cooling.

how do you know how well s*it sticks to a blanket? no one stay round frasers ok :)

i'm guessing that was responding to me mentioning the 300ZX?

i quite like them, quite roomy, big engine and RWD all the qualities i look for in a nice car :) oh and twin turbos because the japs are just nuts like that!

gets pricey if a turbo blows though :(

I think I must be twinned with Beirut or something. It would live "on the drive" at night, and works carpark in allocated space during the day.

was that using confused? confused couldn't find a quote cheaper than £2k for my old MR2 turbo, i just called around instead. my admiral quote was cheaper than the quote given on the web and the web price is meant to be discounted!

they look so cool from the back though, guess you get a long time to see the back end while it sits on the ramps getting that popped engine sorted for sporty you can't beat an MR2 turbo on running costs, handling and power to weight keeps it shifting, will beat a supra off the line untill it gets to silly speeds and the supra will whip it :)

friend of mine had a 500bhp supra and VERY bloody nice it was too, other mate had a MR2 turbo running about 350bhp at the time, they did a pretty close 1/4 mile ;) MR2 turbo snatched it with a noticible gap! and it did it all 3 times hehe :)

was a 300ZX but a Supra aerotop won't do any better. Some years ago a dealer in town had a Porsche 911 targa for sale. One bright Sunday afternoon someone took it for a test drive, got to first slight kink in the road after NSL sign and then he was going backwards. Backed into the ditch and hit a tree, smeared him, his wife/girlfriend and the salesman up the tree as it flipped soft side first.

I prefer cars that have proven accident survival. Like the one that can knock down lamp posts sideways on with the drivers door, then it used the folded over remains as a rail slide (like that 240SX killing ugly bug thinks it did on the Armco in Herbbie fully loaded) and the driver got out with light bruising. I've seen a photo set of someone rolling one after taking off on a ramp in a sandpit and getting out with a big grin (OK dent in roof said passenger or a UK driver wouldn't have done so well, would have had a headache).

Get a roof or drive like a pussy.

All part of the experience vamp.

PS I have an 18 month old baby.

Did you know it was running a Nissan RB26DETT?

Fraser

Yep. Sorry - don't have a newsserver so have to post through google. Anyway, I wanted a 300ZX for a loooong time, before the 350Z came along. Quite a handful, I imagine, though. But dirt cheap...

5 years come October, with no breaks of any kind, but a Provisional=20 license (which one insurance company said counted) since late 1986. Just=20 didn't start taking lessons until 2001.

Top tip: When using google groups, press the "show options" and then "reply" buttons at the top of any given post rather than the "reply" button at the bottom. This'll quote the original post in its entirety so you can snip stuff you don't need and reply.

It's only 1 extra click and it makes you a whole lot easier to understand. (c:

For a laugh, what's a 1998 Ka2, say? :)

special midget salesman or pocket imaginary girfriend then? Or was he driving by remote control?

911 has always had a sort of low padded shelf in the back and claimed to be a 2+2. I used to get a lift to work in a 912 which was same body as 911 and that had a back seat of sorts. Still does, I saw a new shape 911 before Xmas with someone in the back, didn't look like a kid.

You can get 3 in a MG Midget with the soft top up. Could have got 4 in if someone had sat on the passengers lap.

You can get 7 in an 850 Austin Mini. 4 in the back, 3 in the front. Mate and his girlfriend on the front passenger seat must have been close to 30 stone, the 4 in the back about 36-40 stone and the driver around 12 stone. So that's about 80 stone or 10 cwt or 1/2 ton in a mini. We all went up Dovedale on a February weekday, in the late '70's when there was a "student day of action" going on at college. Some idiots got a bus to a rally in London, Dovedale was EMPTY.

A few years ago I gave my teenage nephew and 3 of his friends a lift in my 200SX. Arrived at the destination and 4 got out the back! He'd distracted me while loading up and they had snuck an extra one in hidden behind one of the high seat backs. I had even looked round to check they put seat belts on and hadn't seen the 4th one.

You don't know that, but without clicking the link, I suspect it's a broken car.

Or drive WELL. I don't intend to crash my car when I drive, hardtop or not, and if I'm going well enough for a ragtop to be significantly more dangerous, a steel roof isn't going to help much.

Richard

You're a pillock, ranting about safety at the same time as talking about getting more than the designed number of people into a car.

I see no problem with getting more people into the car. But, you have to accept that in a crash, they are going to die, and will probably stain your clothing with goo.

Richard
