Everything you said is right, but :) I'm not keen on stainless, it's too hard for me, but mild will rust like a bastard :( A laser cut flange would be perfect, but I don't think you understand just how tight I am, part of the fun with the car is doing everything as cheap as possible, even if I have cash burning hole in me pocket.
On a similar note, my 99p carbs arrived this morning, what a gorgeouis smell to wake up to :)

Unfortunately no stainless being used at the moment. Why not use mild steel then get it powder coated?
Sorted it now cheers, believe it or not, the local branch of "Metal Supermarkets" had just what I wanted in for a change :)
I would use mild and get it powdercoated, cos I can get free powdercoating now, but it's steel and it's attached to the head so it'll get a bit too warm for plastic I think.

It'll be fine, I powder coated the inlet manifold and cam cover on my 1.8T a couple of years ago and it's still as good as new.
