This is going to get me slated. But...

auto's are ok but the manuals have a s**te box, feels awkward and the gear lever on the manuals is really long, done in a sort of hot rod style but it's a mile between throws and quite hard to find the gears. i too quite like the way they look in black with a set of nice wheels but there so dull! never driven the diesel only the 2.4 petrols and they go ok but once the looks wore off i'd be bored of it quite quickly.

plus i only ever see 40+ people driving them normally with 2 kids in the back which puts me off them a little.

Found this cover version while searching for quite possibly one of my favourite songs of all time after hearing the million-unneccessary-keychanges version of "Hero" put together by Cowell's Cronies, and thinking that this would be an immensely apt song to re-release for war hero type charities.

From the reviews, the diesel is a better engine, slightly noiseier and slower to 60 but torqier and smoother on a cruise.

That'll be me next year then. I rarely see the kids in the back when I see them and they don't sound that noisy. At least they don't seem so MPV like when you see them.

if you want something boring but unusal then yeah there ok and they cost f*ck all at the end of the day seen a few round the £1500-2000 mark sounds like you really want to try one so find one take it for a spin and see what you think. then after a year come back and tell us what other crazy random motor your thinking of getting.

Are 406 Coupe 2.2 HDis cheap yet? Cos they look cool still, and have mega comfy seats (at least, the V6 high spec one does), and if you wanna get in the back, they move forward on electric runners so you don't have to push them hehe! They have all the toys, I suspect a 2.2 HDI, like the V6, isn't available in pov. spec. Although, I've just not looked at all, and I suspect they're rather pricey...
