I enjoyed it :) Made me grin in a big way! But never driven a 205 Gti - so i can't really comment - the 180 was VERY fast tho, and felt very nice :)

Sorry, but the difference between the GTi 180 I had for just sixteen minutes :( and the 205 GTi's I've driven isn't in performance (yawn, it's easy to make a faster car, just use more power) but in the way the 205 communicates to you.

It _urges_ you to try faster.

It _shouts_ at you about the road surface.

It calls you a _pussy_ if you don't give it 100% on a twisty road, and sneers at you when you park up.

The only time it's quiet is when you've overcooked it and you're heading towards shrubbery, sideways. :)

The 206 feels anaemic in comparison. Technically competent, yes, but somehow, dead from the steering wheel down. In comparison.

NTL news server is UTTER CRAP. I cannot read any news unless its about

2am as it just times out, so much so that I hardly get to see these newsgroups any more :(

Its possible but I dont know yet that I may get my Micra r/r this sat. I shall see if I can be bothered to wake up that early for the r/r day lol :) My 1/4 mile time has also improved to 15.5 and I have no traction at all in 1st due to cheapo tyres lol

In the words of Yoda, "power not make one great." The 205 GTi feels tingly and alive.

Prolly about right.

I can keep up with a 200bhp Scoob in the TI as long as it's not a really twisty road :) Never tried with a WRX/STi though.

Agreed.

230bhp for the average Impreza 2000 Turbo/WRX type engine, 280 in the madder ones, 300 in the latest IIRC.

I doubt it weighs that much less.

Having blown away a lot of very quick cars in my old 4Cam Legacy estate, I reckon there's not much that in the hands of an averagely skilled driver will be quicker than an Impreza Turbo.

OTOH, I had some fun in the Senator upsetting an M5 today. Didn't try passing it - I'm not that stupid - but got them /very/ flustered in the corners.

(Was it a real M5? I have no idea. Wide wheels, twin pipes, M5 badge, private plate. Was comfortably quicker on the uptake than the Senator).

Yea thats what i use, same servers as News.CIS.DFN.DE and it works great - even when i'm on NTL broadband :) NTL news servers are INDEED crap - as is the whole package/service....

M5 = quad pipes (to each side) and the tyres are about as wide as my MR2 :)

No, it's 208bhp.

Claimed. Actually, most of them claim 210. Most people reckon that Subaru are somewhat conservative regarding power outputs ;)

I coulda sworn it was nearer 220, like 218 or something, also didn't meaty say his Saab was 150 ish bhp or so? I mean they still do 0-60 in 6 seconds, which is damm quick,

900 T16 = 175bhp on 95ron on a warm day 190bhp on Optimax on a Cool Day.

fondest memories

Next test drive will be a Punto HGT, a Civic Type R, a 306 GTi-6, a 206 GTi, and a 106 GTi :)

All in the name of 'research for Business Decision Making portfolio" :D

Unless you're driving a (normally older) car with weak, worn or no syncromesh, in which case it's very useful indeed.
